A cruise ship rescued two men in the Gulf of Mexico who say their own boat had sunk. The two were spotted by the crew of Carnival Jubilee near an island off the coast of Cancun.
Carnival says its Jubilee had left port in Galveston last week for a cruise of the western Caribbean. Monday, the company says crew members spotted a kayak near Isla Mujeres.
Carnival says the crew of Jubilee rescued two men from the kayak.
“They were welcomed onto the ship safely and were evaluated by the ship’s medical staff and given first aid and food,” the company wrote in a press release.
The men said their boat had sunk, and the kayak was serving as a life raft.
Carnival says the two men are from Keller, so the company’s Fleet Operation Center in Miami contacted the Mexican Navy to set up a transfer, and the Navy would help them get home.
Carnival says Jubilee continued on to its next port at an island off the coast of Honduras.
