Growing up in the Northside neighborhood of Fort Worth, Luz Trejo, a Fort Worth ISD mom of three, knows the issues facing her community. The area’s residents are proud and vibrant, Trejo said, but some North Side High School families live far below the poverty line. Some parents leave for work early in the morning, before their children begin their school days, and don’t return until the kids are back home. Focused on survival, these parents are as invested in their children’s education as they can be, she said.
