The Department of Labor recovered more than $1 million in total from two separate home care providers that shortchanged workers. The first, WiCare Home Care Agency in Lebanon, PA, was ordered to pay more than $529,000 in back wages and an equal amount in liquidated damages for minimum and overtime wage violations. A DOL investigation found that WiCare failed to pay required overtime rates for non-exempt employees, and also paid some workers less than the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. Investigators also found that WiCare did not maintain accurate time records, in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act. In total, 193 workers were affected.
