Fort Worth, Texas – Fort Worth Animal Care and Control is hosting “P.A.W.S. for Patriots,” a special event meant to link military veterans with shelter animals. Helping each find companionship, purpose, and healing, this program promises therapeutic volunteer opportunities benefiting the veterans as well as the animals. The North Animal Campus on Hillshire Drive in Fort Worth has the event set on Saturday, Nov. 16, from noon to 5 p.m.

Upon returning to civilian life, veterans and service personnel typically encounter a variety of difficulties ranging from controlling stress and anxiety to managing the hole left by the structure and friendship of military duty. For Patriots, P.A.W.S. provides a significant solution: the opportunity to interact directly with shelter animals, who, like many veterans, are typically in need of company and care. Veterans find a new kind of direction and structure by helping to train, socialize, and exercise these animals; the animals get the love and attention they need to get ready for future adoptions.
