UTA earns rare U.S. Department of Education recognition for student success efforts

The University of Texas at Arlington was one of three four-year colleges in the nation to be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for its success in educating underserved students and putting them on a pathway to success after graduation.

“UTA looks like the face of Texas, and our goal is to be here to serve Texas, and be here for all Texans,” UTA President Jennifer Cowley told the Report. “(We’re) being really intentional about how we support every student’s success on their pathway to earning their degree and then moving on to whatever their career option is after they graduate.”

The two universities recognized along with UTA were the University of South Carolina Upstate and San José State University. It’s the first year that the Department of Education launched this program. The department identified 200 institutions to apply, among them 100 bachelor’s degree-granting institutions. A panel of 50 reviewers scored applications and interviewed top contenders…
