Record heat expected in North Texas this week with temps in the 90s

Monday was a very seasonable day in North Texas, with highs in the low to middle 80s, which is right near normal for this point in the year. I hope you enjoyed it, because July-like heat heads our way the next few days!

By Tuesday, a ridge of high pressure starts to build to the south of us, and our southwesterly flow ramps up.

This sends highs to the middle 90s for the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, and into the triple digits for our western counties Tuesday afternoon.

Wednesday looks to be our hottest day in the metroplex, with highs in the upper 90s to near-100°. The one factor that could limit hitting 100° in Dallas-Fort Worth is the soil moisture content level, which could limit temperatures from quite getting into the 100s. We will be close, however, and hot regardless, with record-breaking heat expected for Wednesday.

For that reason, we have a First Alert Weather Day in effect for Wednesday. While we are used to temperatures being this hot during the summer, this would be our first triple-digit day of the year, so this is your Alert to make sure you are taking heat safety precautions. Stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and limit time outdoors for you and your pets.

A dry cold front moves in Thursday, dropping temps back to the lower 90s Thursday afternoon and Friday.

From then on, we will watch the dryline slowly nudge eastward out of West Texas. This will bring isolated to scattered storm chances Friday evening, then once again Saturday afternoon/evening, as well as Sunday afternoon/evening…
