Casey Hall to appeal recent theft conviction, sentence

DENTON COUNTY (KFDX/KJTL) — The former 97th Judicial District Attorney has filed notice of her intent to appeal her recent conviction and sentence for misuse of Montague County funds while she was still in office.

Former 97th Judicial District Attorney Casey Renee Hall, 38, of Bowie, was convicted of misapplication of fiduciary property and theft by a public servant on May 13, 2025, in the 16th District Court in Denton County, with Judge Shelly Shipman presiding.

On May 14, 2025, the same Denton County jury of six men and six women that convicted Hall subsequently sentenced her to 1 year in a state jail facility for misapplication of fiduciary property and 6 years of probation for theft by a public servant.

Hall was taken into custody after she was sentenced on May 14. However, Judge Shipman granted Hall’s request for an appeal bond, which was set at $10,000. Hall posted that bond and was released the same day…
