Heartland Flyer to stay on the tracks for another year after getting funding

GAINESVILLE, Texas (KXII) – It’s not the end of the line yet for the Heartland Flyer. The Amtrak train that runs from Oklahoma City to Fort Worth will stay on track for another year.

On Thursday, the North Central Texas Council of Governments’ Regional Transportation Council voted to give $3.5 million in regional toll revenue funds to the railway to keep the train running.

In June, Amtrak said service would end by October if funding from Texas was not secured. Oklahoma committed its cut, but funding was not included in the budget approved by the Texas legislature. Both states split the cost to run the train…
