With heat indexes reaching triple digits for the first time this summer, The Salvation Army of North Texas has activated 10 cooling and hydration stations across the region. Locations are open in Dallas, Denton, Collin, Ellis and Tarrant counties.
As the largest social services provider in North Texas, The Salvation Army is offering essential resources to help protect vulnerable populations from extreme heat. Services include access to hydration, shelter, food and financial assistance for utility bills. Emergency mobile feeding units, or canteens, are also being deployed to deliver aid directly to areas in need.
The Dallas-Fort Worth area saw 23 days of 100-degree weather in 2024. In 2023, Texas recorded more than 350 heat-related deaths.
