At approximately 1:30 a.m., the Grapevine Police Department dispatched officers to a residence on the 400 block of Brewer Street, responding to a call that would unveil the grim tale of one woman’s frightful encounter and the standoff that ensued.
According to a CBS News report, a neighbor’s testimony revealed that the woman at the center of this incident had approached them, frantic, seeking help. Her words painted a harrowing picture; her husband, 68-year-old James David Hilton, had allegedly assaulted her with a handgun, threats, and violence. “Claiming that her husband woke her up with a handgun to her forehead,” the neighbor recounted to police, as the woman detailed the assault and the deadly threats whispered in the dark.
Grapevine officers arrived to find the suspect barricaded within his home, a silent fortress against pleas and orders. The intervention of SWAT and a negotiator was required, marking the gravity of the situation.
