Cockrell Hill Cartel Middleman Slapped With 11-Year Federal Term

A Cockrell Hill resident who moved cartel-level quantities of methamphetamine and other narcotics across North Texas is headed to federal prison for more than 11 years. Luis Robert Velazquez, 39, was sentenced Monday in federal court and now faces roughly 11 years and three months behind bars after admitting he worked for the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generación.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas, Velazquez pleaded guilty in July 2025 and admitted that between November 2024 and April 2025, he received shipments of about 300 kilograms of methamphetamine, 10 to 12 kilograms of heroin, and roughly a kilogram of cocaine from Mexico-based CJNG associates. The release states he distributed those narcotics in kilogram quantities around the Dallas area, laundered proceeds back to cartel superiors, and was sentenced to 135 months by U.S. Senior District Judge David Godbey.

FBI Dallas highlighted the sentence in a post, noting the case was handled by the Dallas Homeland Security Task Force and saying the investigation helped reduce narcotics flowing into local neighbourhoods.
