Why did this ‘Back to the Future’-themed Texas restaurant never open?

“When this baby hits 88 miles per hour… you’re gonna see some serious s**t.”

Those famous words by Christopher Lloyd’s Dr. Emmett Brown kick-started the time-traveling journey of Michael J. Fox’s Marty McFly in Back to the Future and began more than 40 years of fandom that lingers to this very day. Texans have not been shy with their love for the 1985 blockbuster look no further than Boerne’s Darkside Brick Oven Pizza Co., but folks up in North Texas are wondering why their slice of nostalgia never opened its doors.

909 West Magnolia Avenue, Suite 10, in Fort Worth was previously the home of Yucatan Taco Stand before it was replaced by Tres Amigos Tacos & Tequila in 2024. That concept did not last long, shutting down sometime last year with a Yelp post saying the lights were out and furniture was gone as of this January. In its place was supposed to be Marty’s, a Back to the Future-themed restaurant from the owners of McFly’s Pub, also a nod to the 1980s classic. The team went as far as putting murals of Fox and Lloyd, as well as the DeLorean time machine, on the side of the building, but then nothing…
