(KRON) — The Fremont Police Department said a fraud investigation is underway after an elderly victim reported being scammed out of several thousand dollars in an apparent package-drop scam.
FPD said they were alerted of the scheme on July 2.
“A subject claimed to be from the FBI and convinced the victim to help with a sting operation by withdrawing cash from her account,” said police in a log of the incident. “On multiple occasions, the victim withdrew cash or a cashier’s check and gave it to a courier at a fast-food restaurant on Mowry Avenue.”…
