SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Monsoon moisture is setting up perfect conditions in the San Francisco Bay Area for colorful horizons with dramatic sunrises and sunsets.
KRON4 viewers shared photographs of gorgeous recent sunsets glowing beneath clouds with vivid hues of pink, orange, and red.
Forecasters explained that monsoon weather patterns ushered in muggy, hot temperatures, as well as unique altostratus and altocumulus cloud formations.
The National Weather Service Bay Area said, “You may have noticed some colorful sunrises and sunsets over the last two days. Those are being caused by monsoon moisture pushing up from the south bringing us mid level clouds. Even if it’s overcast, there is enough room underneath the clouds (about 10,000 feet) for the setting sun to illuminate the bottom of these altostratus and altocumulus clouds and create the beautiful sunsets.”
Thick layers of marine fog, which sometimes blanket the region during summer months, remained absent over the past 48 hours. This created a perfect opening for the sun to pierce through — below mid-level clouds and above the horizon — to illuminate vivid colors, forecasters said…
