Hodo Foods, the celebrated Oakland producer of artisan soy products that got its start in Bay Area farmers markets 20 years ago, has recalled a line of cooked tofu that was distributed to 29 states, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Hodo recalled more than 10,000 cases of its Chili Crisp Lightly Fried Tofu because of potential chemical contamination with ink, according to the FDA. The recall, which began on Aug. 7 but just began receiving wider attention, involves products shipped to California along with 28 other states, but only those with specific lot numbers and use-by dates.
“Hodo, Inc. is voluntarily recalling select production lots of Hodo Lightly Fried Chili Crisp Tofu because printing ink from the product packaging may have migrated into the food product,” the company said in a Aug. 7 press release. “No other Hodo products are included in this recall.”
“To date, Hodo is not aware of any reported illnesses, injuries, adverse health effects, or product-defect complaints associated with the affected product,” the release said. The company could not immediately be reached for an update on the recall…
