When Leo Lazar and his wife Becky moved to Cupertino eight years ago with their two preschool-age daughters, finding a Jewish community that felt familiar, welcoming, family-oriented and rooted in Orthodox Judaism turned out to be easier than they expected.
They enrolled their daughters, then 2 and 4, at South Peninsula Hebrew Day School in Sunnyvale, a Modern Orthodox Jewish day school for children 18 months through eighth grade and simultaneously joined the Orthodox synagogue next door: Bar Yohai Sephardic Minyan.
Through their involvement in the school and synagogue, Lazar hoped his family would develop at least a few deep friendships within the Jewish community…
