2 people die after being rescued from South Bay house fire

(KRON) — Two people who were rescued from a house fire in the South Bay Wednesday morning succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, the Santa Clara County Fire Department said.

Fire crews responded at 2 a.m. to the 17000 block of Rose Court in Monte Sereno. Arriving firefighters located a two-story home with fire coming through the roof and initiated a rapid search for occupants, fire officials said.

Investigators said the victims appear to be an older couple who were found in a bedroom. They were rushed to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, where they died. The identities of the victims were not immediately released.

Approximately 40 firefighters responded to the blaze.
