Police arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of arson Wednesday in relation to an early morning apartment fire in Alameda that injured two people and displaced 12 residents, authorities said.
The “heavy fire” broke out around 4:45 a.m. in a first-floor apartment on the 400 block of Central Avenue and spread to adjoining units, trapping occupants on the upper two floors, according to the Alameda Police Department.
One person was injured after jumping from the third floor of the complex to escape the blaze, Alameda Fire Department public information officer Kevin Tidwell said.
