Dangerous surf, high tides and coastal flooding forecast for Bay Area this weekend

A trip to the beach this weekend could be a lot more dangerous than it looks.

The National Weather Service issued a Beach Hazards Statement Thursday for the San Francisco Peninsula coast and coastal North Bay, warning of breaking waves up to 16 feet, sneaker waves and strong rip currents from Saturday morning through Monday afternoon.

At the same time, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from Friday morning through Tuesday afternoon for San Francisco, Monterey Bay and other bayshore areas. The weather service says up to 1.2 feet of water could cover low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways, with flooding possible at some parks, parking lots, roads and coastal trails…
