George Kittle among two 49ers injuries from NFC title game

The San Francisco 49ers did not suffer any major injuries in their remarkable NFC Championship Game win over the Detroit Lions.

There is one that bears monitoring as the 49ers start their preparations for Super Bowl 58, with tight end George Kittle considered day to day with a toe injury. Cornerback Ambry Thomas (ankle) is also considered day to day.

Kittle was not forced to leave the game because of the injury and, with an extended period of time to recover before the 49ers face the Kansas City Chiefs, the odds of it being a problem that will be an issue heading into the game are very slim.

Thomas did leave the game after injuring his ankle defending an attempted flea flicker from Jared Goff to Jameson Williams in the fourth quarter of the 49ers’ thrilling 34-31 win.

He had been playing on the outside on nickel downs with Deommodore Lenoir kicking inside. Given Thomas’ postseason struggles and the play of Logan Ryan when he stepped in to play the slot following the injury, it will be interesting to see if the 49ers move to a different plan in the secondary for a matchup with Patrick Mahomes.
