The National Weather Service’s Bay Area office has issued an update forecasting scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms continuing into Tuesday, particularly over the Central Coast. Another weak weather system is expected to bring light rain on Wednesday, followed by a trend toward drier but seasonably cool weather on Thursday and Friday. High pressure is anticipated to build over the weekend, bringing dry and mild conditions back to the region.
As of the latest update issued at 8:30 PM PST on Monday, February 5, 2024, the evening shift reports a quieter weather scenario compared to the previous evening. The KMUX radar still indicates scattered showers generally moving southwest to northwest. Although no lightning has been observed, stronger cells are producing small hail and brief heavy rain. The chance of shower activity will persist tonight into tomorrow due to a spinning upper low off the coast. The nearby upper low is pulling in colder air aloft, with snow levels hovering in the 4500-5500 ft range. A few showers may even transition into snow over the highest peaks, although no significant accumulation is expected. Winds are considerably weaker tonight, with the highest gusts around 20 mph above 4,000 feet.
