Major California freeway to be closed over four days in February; Lengthy detour required

Caltrans has scheduled a weekend closure for southbound Interstate 680 in Pleasanton, starting on Friday, February 16, and concluding on Tuesday morning, February 20, 2024.

The closure, stretching from the I-580/I-680 Connector to Koopman Road, is part of a pavement rehabilitation project aimed at replacing a deteriorated section of the roadway.

During this closure, a contractor will execute the replacement of the worn-out pavement, enhancing safety for motorists and eliminating the need for numerous nightly closures throughout the project.

The closure is planned to be in effect from 9:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16, until 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20.

The rehabilitation work is not only expected to be completed an entire year ahead of schedule but will also spare motorists from driving on deteriorated pavement until 2025.

Additionally, it consolidates the amount of work that would otherwise necessitate approximately 50 nighttime closures.

Caltrans acknowledges the impact on the motoring public and assures that measures will be taken to minimize inconvenience.

Portable changeable message signs will be strategically placed before the closure to advise motorists, and detour routes have been outlined.
