Cat shot in East Palo Alto, owner struggles to pay $5K vet bill

EAST PALO ALTO, Calif. (KRON) — A pet owner in East Palo Alto discovered her cat has been shot and is now facing thousands of dollars in veterinary bills.

Shauna Glenn showed KRON4 the in hole her cat Baby’s stomach. X-ray images showing that bullet inside the cat. The injury was discovered in April.

“So, I took him into the vet, and we had an X-ray scheduled and they found a bullet,” Glenn said.

Glenn initially thought it was from a cat fight at the time. A police report has been filed. Glenn said her cat was shot somewhere near Lincoln Avenue and East Bayshore Road. Baby is overdue for surgery to remove the bullet.

“I don’t know if it was intentional, I don’t know if it was a stray, but he had it inside and it needs to be removed,” Glenn said.

Glenn was told Baby needs two surgeries — one to remove the bullet and the other to repair his leg. The vet bill worth over $5,000.

“Many people do not have an extra $5,000 laying around for their pet as much as they would want,” said Joan Quinn, the program director for Guardian Heals , a non-profit that helps pet owners pay for veterinary care who cannot afford it. “We investigated along with Shauna, a number of different hospitals to see where we can find the best care for the best price and yes, it is an expensive part of it because two surgeries need to be performed.”
