Amazon To Close Two Facilities in California

The e-commerce giant Amazon has announced that they will close two facilities in California. They are going to close their fulfillment center in Sacramento and also in Irvine. The Sacramento office will lose 159 jobs and will close on October 30. The Irvine facility will close on November 7 and cut 162 jobs. Amazon did say that they are offering the employees the opportunities to work at other Amazon facilities, and if they are not able or are unwilling to transfer, they will permanently be laid off.

Amazon spokesman Sam Stephenson said in a statement to SFGATE.com,“We’re always evaluating our network to make sure it fits our business needs and to improve the experience for our employees, customers and partners, As part of that effort, we’ve decided not to renew the lease at our facilities.”

The board of supervisors in San Francisco put an 18 month delay (which has ended) on any new delivery centers after Amazon had asked to build a huge one in SoMa. No updates have been given on the project.
