The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (Contra Costa Fire) has announced the launch of its Peer Support Canine Program, aimed at providing essential support for firefighters and their families. Recognizing the unique stressors faced by fire personnel, the program offers comfort care and proactive assistance designed to promote mental well-being.
The initiative will introduce two specially trained peer support canines, along with the District’s Fire Investigation Dog and Search and Rescue Task Force Dog, during a swearing-in event on Monday at Fire Station 2 in Pleasant Hill. Contra Costa Fire emphasizes the importance of having trained canines and handlers to foster health and resilience among their team members, particularly in light of the significant impacts of their challenging work.
