The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Bay Area, effective from 11 AM Tuesday, November 5, until 7 AM Thursday, November 7. This warning comes as strengthening offshore winds and critically dry conditions are forecast to develop over the region, lasting into Thursday morning.
Current satellite imagery reveals a few cirrus clouds over northern California, while low clouds are observed over the coastal waters. Winds are currently mild, ranging from 15 to 25 mph in higher elevations such as Mt. Tam, Mt. Diablo, and Mt. Umunhum. However, many locations report relative humidity levels dropping to between 20% and 30%, indicating very dry conditions.
The forecast indicates that strong offshore pressure gradients will lead to enhanced winds, with temperatures expected to rise 5 to 10 degrees above early November averages. As cold air advection occurs, nighttime temperatures may drop near early November lows. Areas outside the forecast zone, like Ukiah and Paso Robles, could see temperatures nearing freezing, with interior locations potentially reaching the upper 20s to lower 30s early Thursday and Friday mornings.
