San Jose Resident Charged with Attempted Murder and Illegal Possession of Assault Weapon After Hit and Run in Campbell

In Campbell, a hit-and-run incident escalated to attempted murder charges. The incident occurred on April 17, shortly before the clock struck 9:40 PM. Officers from the Campbell Police Department were dispatched to 260 E Campbell Ave, where they found a black BMW had struck a male adult victim following a verbal altercation. The vehicle was reported to have fled the scene.

Fortunately, the victim was promptly taken to Valley Medical Center and released the next day in good condition. Detectives leveraged technology to quickly bring the perpetrator to justice, including surveillance footage and Automatic License Plate Readers. These tools proved crucial in pointing the finger toward one Mardin Gevargiz, a 24-year-old San Jose resident. According to a report by the Campbell Police Department, the victim identified Gevargiz as the driver through a photo lineup.

Under a week later, last Friday, the Campbell Police approached Gevargiz at his residence, where he was arrested without any further incident. Gevargiz is now facing serious charges, including assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder. But the charges did not stop at vehicular violence.
