As spring turns to summer, officials at East Bay Regional Park District are urging caution throughout parks in Alameda and Contra Costa counties due to increased rattlesnake activity.
The native northern Pacific rattlesnake emerges from hibernation this time of year, raising the chance of encounters along trails, roads, and even urban areas, according to the Park District.
Visitors are encouraged to stay on trails, avoid tall grass, and keep dogs leashed. If bitten, remain calm, keep the affected limb lower than the heart, and seek emergency help immediately—never use snakebite kits or tourniquets.…
