The Mountain View Police Department has successfully apprehended a suspect tied to numerous commercial burglaries in the area. 28-year-old Walter Chicas, a Mountain View resident, faces 23 counts of burglary. The arrest followed a detailed investigation by the Mountain View Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit on a string of burglaries occurring since early January 2025, as per the City of Mountain View.
Caught on video surveillance, Chicas’s actions led to his identification by the authorities. While collaborating with nearby jurisdictions, Mountain View police detectives, along with the assistance from the Palo Alto Police Department, arrested Chicas last Wednesday, at approximately 1:45 PM, on the 100 block of E. El Camino Real. Then, in the arrest sequence, a search warrant was executed at a residence on the 500 block of West Middlefield Road. Here, they found evidence about the burglaries and a firearm involved in a prior incident.
Digging deeper into Chicas’s criminal involvements, it was discovered that the firearm uncovered during the search related to a February 2025 burglary in Sunnyvale. “Chicas admitted to firing the weapon and hiding it before being arrested during this incident and later retrieved it after being released from custody,” as described in the City of Mountain View news release…
