Hayward Launches Traffic Signal Upgrades for Easier Commutes Along Tennyson Road, Winton Avenue Up Next

Hayward has finished upgrading the traffic lights on Tennyson Road and installing smart timing that changes the green-light length as traffic ebbs and flows. Completed on May 2 for about $812,600 to $515,000 from a regional grant and $297,600 from the City, the system should cut stop-and-go idling and give drivers steadier speeds, per the City of Hayward.

A similar upgrade is coming to Winton Avenue/D Street between Atherton and Santa Clara streets. Crews will lay fiber-optic cables in June and plan to switch on the adaptive signals by September…
