On the evening of June 18, a group of around 15 men robbed Kumar Jewelers, an Indian-owned jewelry store on Mowry Avenue in Fremont. The family-owned store became the latest Indian jewelry store in the Bay Area to fall victim to targeted smash-and-grab robberies, a trend that has persisted since 2024.
NBC Bay Area reports that the robbers used a car to break through the storefront and entered the store wearing masks and armed with hammers. They then broke the display cases and stole jewelry worth tens of thousands of dollars.
The shop is owned by the Indian American Verma family. The owners and an attendant were inside the store when the robbery happened. Nobody was injured as a result of the incident…
