A historic San Francisco pharmacy that’s been serving its neighborhood for more than a century, even outlasting corporate giants, is officially closing its doors and saying goodbye.
Central Drug Store, a community staple in the city’s Excelsior District since 1908, will permanently shut down at the end of the day on July 15, 2025. The closure marks the end of an era as its longtime owner, Jerry Tonelli, announces his retirement.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce my retirement,” Tonelli shared in a Facebook post. “After almost 50 years of serving the Excelsior as your neighborhood pharmacist, Central Drug Store will be closing its doors for the last time.”…
