Trader Joe’s has filed a lawsuit against Direct Action Everywhere, or DxE, an animal rights organization headquartered in Berkeley,following years of DxE protests at Trader Joe’s stores over the chain’s poultry sourcing.
The lawsuit, filed July 3, included a complaint for trespass at several Trader Joe’s locations, including the Oakland location on College Avenue,and a request for an injunction against DxE, several named animal rights activists and a number of unknown individuals.Defendants were served papers July 17.
DxE has protested on Trader Joe’s property within Alameda County multiple times, including the Berkeley location on University Avenue earlier this year. DxE protesters have called for the grocery chain to stop sourcing its poultry products from Perdue Farm’s Petaluma Poultry, which they claim use cruel and unethical practices in raising livestock…
