Intel CEO announces more layoffs, return-to-office mandate

(KRON) — Santa Clara-based chipmaker Intel plans to lay off tens of thousands of more employees by the end of the year and introduce a mandatory return-to-office, its CEO announced. In a letter to all company employees posted Thursday, Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said the company would be reducing its headcount by 15% by the end of the year, reducing its global workforce to about 75,000.

With Intel’s current workforce estimated to be around 100,000, the proposed job cuts will see about 15,000 people lose their jobs across the company.

In addition, Tan announced that Intel was “on track” to implement a return-to-office policy in September, “with sites completing necessary improvements to operate at full capacity.”

Tan called the moves “hard but necessary,” to “streamline the organization, drive greater efficiency and increase accountability at every level of the company.”…
