A car traveling on Interstate 580 near Castro Valley caught fire Sunday evening, starting a vegetation fire on nearby hills and affecting westbound traffic, according to California Highway Patrol.
The vehicle was traveling westbound when it caught fire at around 5:15 p.m. near Eden Canyon Road, according to Caltrans. The black SUV was fully engulfed in flames by 5:22 p.m., when reports noted that the blaze had spread to patches of grassland off the highway.
