Updated forecast:Cooler weather returns to Bay Area. Here’s how long it will last
A deepening marine layer will drop temperatures across the Bay Area from Tuesday through Thursday and bring a chance of drizzle to San Francisco and other coastal areas. No weather hazards are predicted over land Tuesday, but a long-period swell will raise the risk of sneaker waves and rip currents at southwest-facing beaches.
The high-pressure system that resulted in the recent warmup is slowly breaking down. As it breaks down, marine breezes will extend much farther inland Tuesday through Thursday. This will coincide with a deepening marine layer, the boundary between a shallow ocean-chilled layer of air near the ground and much hotter air above. By Wednesday morning, the marine layer could be nearly 2,000 feet high, deep enough for water droplets to fall out of the clouds as drizzle, rather than remaining suspended in the air…
