Federal budget cuts could deepen homelessness crisis, Milpitas nonprofit warns at conference

This past Saturday, August 23, at the Milpitas Police Department (1275 N. Milpitas Blvd.) conference room, local nonprofit Hope for the Unhoused (H4U) hosted its 3rd annual Homeless Conference, providing presentations on the state of homelessness in Milpitas while highlighting the challenges and opportunities that come with solving it.

Each year of the conference thus far, H4U has seen its audience size increasing. The organization has also logged steadily increasing volunteer numbers. Meanwhile, though, homelessness in Milpitas is slowly going up; the number of unhoused people living here tends to hover around 200, and lately it’s been on the rise.

“You have the ability to help and try to do something about that,” H4U President Robert Jung told those in attendance…
