Bay Area wine shop cuts ties with co-owner after child predator charges

The now former co-owner of Oakland wine shop Bay Grape was arrested on July 30, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. Cameron Hoppas, 39, was taken into custody on charges including lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 after he allegedly arranged to meet with someone he believed was a 13-year-old girl.

Hoppas’s arrest was part of a child predator sting operation that resulted in the arrest of 13 suspects across Sacramento, Placer and Humboldt counties, according to FOX40. In the operation, undercover detectives chatted with the suspects on social media while posing as children age 13 or younger. The suspects continued to “arrange to meet and have sexual contact,” even when the detectives clearly communicated they were children, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office told FOX40.
