‘Things are bleak’: Popular Bay Area pie shop prepares to close

A popular Bay Area pie shop and café is preparing to close, citing a sustained and sharp drop in business and other headwinds.

The owners of Edith’s Pie in Oakland announced Friday that they hope the business will make it until the busy Thanksgiving season, but they’re unsure it will. “Things are bleak,” they wrote in an announcement: Edith’s is down “at a minimum” 31% in sales, and some days averages just 20 customers. They have fallen behind on payments to vendors.
