Newcomer Hyphy Burger has been making waves in West Oakland with double stacked patties and nods to the Bay Area’s highly energetic brand of hip-hop. After gaining a fast following this year, the movement is now headed to the other side of town.
Hyphy Burger will open a second location in East Oakland in the coming weeks, mere months after the launch of its first location. The latest outpost will open at 9895 East 14th St., inside a former KFC franchise. Inside, staff will cook the same menu as the original: smashburgers with crispy patties and gooey cheese slices, along with fries and milkshakes, the latter blended with popular breakfast cereals like Fruity Pebbles or Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
Co-owner Darion Frazier, the food influencer known as BayAreaFoodz to his 235,000-plus Instagram followers, opened Hyphy Burger with lifelong friend and rapper Akeem Hayes, better known by his stage name Guap.
