Residents of Santa Clara are on alert again as invasive mosquitoes have made a repeat appearance in the area near Amethyst and Chromite drives. According to a social media post from the County of Santa Clara Vector Control District, these pesky vectors, known for carrying diseases such as dengue and Zika, are establishing a foothold in the county.
Identified as Aedes aegypti, these mosquitoes are not the kind to casually lounge in puddles but prefer to lay their eggs in containers, with a preference for small, water-filled objects in backyards. The county’s alert underlines the need for residents to actively dump and scrub out standing water every week to disrupt the hatching cycle.
