East Bay fugitive arrested for attempted murder after 4 years on the run

(KRON) — An East Bay man who police have sought for attempted murder since 2021 is now in custody, the Newark Police Department announced Friday.

The suspect, 28-year-old Terry Franklin, was allegedly involved in a shootout with another person near the 37000 block of Saint Matthew Drive in Newark on May 25, 2021. Police responded but found no suspects at the scene.

Around 9:12 that night, a neighboring police department responded to a car crash and found the driver suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery and has since recovered from the shooting.

“Detectives learned the two exchanged gunfire, during which the injured party was struck,” Newark PD said. “The victim retreated to a vehicle and left the area while Franklin continued firing as the vehicle departed.”
