Teen falls 75 feet to his death off freeway ramp during East Bay sideshow

A 16-year-old boy fell off a freeway on-ramp and died during a sideshow in the Contra Costa County community of Crockett early Saturday, authorities said.

The teen fell about 75 feet to the ground after he climbed over the ramp’s concrete safety barrier, the California Highway Patrol said in a statement. The teen, whom the agency described as a spectator of the sideshow, died at the scene, below the on-ramp from Pomona Street to westbound Interstate 80.

CHP officers were alerted to the fall after they responded to a call about the sideshow, which involved more than 100 cars that took over the intersection of Pomona and Merchant streets, near I-80, the CHP said. Contra Costa County sheriff’s deputies also responded…
