Biggest California location of Korean grocery chain arrives in the Bay Area

Mega Mart, a Korean grocery giant that brought food complex Jagalchi to the Bay Area earlier this year, is opening its biggest store in California next week.

The 50,000-square-foot Mega Mart will open at 1775 East Bayshore Road in East Palo Alto at 10 a.m. on Sept. 24.  The store will be stocked with produce, seafood, meat, fresh baked goods and a large selection of Korean beauty products.

It will also house the first location of Pogu Picnic, a fast-casual restaurant from Jagalchi executive chef Tony Yoo, the first chef in Korea to win a Michelin star. (Yoo is also behind Pogu, a more upscale restaurant inside Jagalchi.) Pogu Picnic serves dosirak, a bento box-like dish with rice and accompaniments. The menu includes rice paired with bulgogi beef, gochujang chicken or grilled eel, along with vegetable sides. There will be seating at Pogu Picnic and Basquia, Mega Mart’s in-house bakery…
