East Bay man pleads not guilty to robbery days after last conviction

(KRON) — Just days after a registered sex offender was convicted of robbing a woman in the East Bay and released on parole, he allegedly robbed another woman on the Peninsula, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.

The Peninsula victim was out for a run in San Mateo on Tuesday just before 9 a.m. when the suspect, identified as Rashaud Jayovonni Lacy, 32, of Oakland, came up behind her and pulled a gold necklace off her neck, prosecutors said. Responding San Mateo Police Department officers obtained surveillance video showing the suspect and learned from a local resident that a man with face tattoos was seen getting into a white Mercedes sedan.

Hours later, at 12:41 p.m., the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office responded to Plaza Jewelers at 3303 Middlefield Road in North Fair Oaks on the report of a man acting aggressively toward employees while trying to sell a gold chain without identification.
