Kaiser Permanente employees picketed outside several Bay Area locations on Tuesday, joining tens of thousands across multiple states in kicking off a planned five-day strike at the nonprofit health care organization.
Up to 46,000 workers represented by an alliance of unions plan to join picket lines throughout the week, demanding higher wages and increased staffing levels. The work stoppage, which is expected to end Sunday morning, could disrupt operations at hospitals, clinics and medical offices in California, Hawaii and Oregon.
