Bay Area could get more rain this weekend than expected if atmospheric river comes closer

A complex weather pattern is wreaking a bit of havoc on the Bay Area’s weekend forecast. For several days, models were advertising just a glancing blow of light rain over the weekend from an atmospheric river aimed mainly at the Pacific Northwest.

Now that outcome is in question, with most forecasts now bringing scattered showers to the Bay Area on Saturday morning and some now bringing more rain to the region by Sunday evening.

Why the uncertainty?

The Bay Area will almost certainly see rain showers on Saturday. A weakening cold front will swing through the region that morning, generatinglight rain that may persist into the early afternoon. All models show a greater than 90% chance of at least a trace of rain across the region by Saturday afternoon.
