CHP, Federal Agents Called to Ongoing Protest at Coast Guard Island in Alameda

The California Highway Patrol arrived at Coast Guard Island in Alameda today, trying to clear protesters still blocking vehicles from entering the base. CHP formed their own line to keep demonstrators out of the intersection. Several people were detained this afternoon.Earlier in the day, protesters were met with flashbangs and forcibly removed so vehicles could pass through. A source tells NBC affiliate KNTV that between 60 and 100 federal agents, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, were expected to arrive at the base.Coast Guard Island is operated by the Department of Homeland Security.
