More than 5,000 customers without power in Fremont, traffic lights go dark

(KRON) — More than 5,000 customers lost power in Fremont Saturday morning due to an ongoing outage.

Traffic is backed up in areas where traffic signals have gone dark. The Fremont Police Department is advising drivers to avoid Mission and Warm Springs boulevards.

“This has caused significant traffic backups and other issues,” Fremont PD said. “There is no current estimated time frame on the restoration of the traffic signals.”

PG&E said that the outage started around 8:44 a.m. Approximately 5,307 customers initially lost power. As of 11:30 a.m., roughly 4,054 people are still without power.

“Our team is evaluating the electrical system to identify damaged sections and make necessary repairs in order to safely turn the power back on,” PG&E stated on its website.
