The National Weather Service (NWS) in San Francisco has issued a Beach Hazards Statement, effective through Monday night, warning of treacherous sneaker waves and strong rip currents, with breakers potentially reaching heights of 13 to 18 feet. The advisory extends a stern caution: “Never turn your back on the ocean,” due to the unpredictability of the conditions. Adding to the complex weather pattern, chunks of Contra Costa County have been shrouded in dense fog, signaling a need for increased caution while driving, with recommendations for reduced speeds and extended following distances, as per the NWS in San Francisco.

But if you’re planning on staying inland, the NWS also signals a relatively calm weather outlook “through the middle of the week.” An Area Forecast Discussion issued at 111 AM PST details a forecast that spells out clear skies for the daytime with a “coastal stratus returns tonight, but clear during the daytime.” On Sunday and Monday, it appears the Bay Area will be granted a brief respite from coastal drama, with a “mild ridge” persisting and temperatures hovering in the polite range of the 50s and 60s.
